10 Days - Explore Kenya Safari.

Walking with Samburu guides & rangers in Ololokwe - Kenyars

Understand the contrasting wildlife environments, scenery and cultures of Mount Kenya region, the Rift Valley Lakes and the spectacular Maasailand. On the way you will experience Wildlife, natural sites and the day-to-day life of Kikuyu farmers and Maasai peoples - visit their villages, homes and farms and be guided by them through their lands and life. The itinerary covers a wider range of environments, game parks and cultural ex§periences - all at a comfortable pace.

Accommodation for this itinerary is a mix of bush camps (fully supported), local hotel and a permanent tented camp in Masai Mara. The bush camping section on this trip allows us access to wilder areas. Although we generally don't include luxury lodges in our itinerary planning, Lodge accommodation can be arranged for most nights if required.

Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Mount Kenya Forest trek.
Morning transfer to Mountain Rock Lodge. After lunch go for an educative nature walk in the forest heading for the fabled Mau Mau caves.  Colourful black and white Colobus monkeys and hartlaub's touracos are commonly sighted along forest trails. Overnight at Mountain Rock Lodge.

Day 2: Mount Kenya moorland trek.
Day trip to Mount Kenya - The second highest mountain in Africa, where we mainly focus on studying the equatorial montane forest zones and with chances for bird watching and wildlife viewing. We hike up the Sirimon trail to Old Moses Camp (3300m) through the rain forest and experience the rich variety of flora and fauna in 3 - 4 hrs. Have lunch and then descent after further exploration of the area. Overnight at lodge.

Day 3: Sweetwaters sanctuary.
Short drive to the nearby Sweetwaters Game sanctuary - a conservancy with abundant game, chimpanzee orphanage and Rhino Sanctuary. Lookout for the Big 5.  Overnight at Mountain Rock lodge.

Day 4: Journey to Lake Nakuru
Drive to Lake Nakuru Park with a stop over at a coffee and tea estate. Activities include coffee picking, bird watching and nature trails. comfortable local hotel just outside Nakuru National Park.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru exploration. 
Full day Game drives in Lake Nakuru national park. Nakuru park has abundant wildlife with unmatched chance of seeing the rare rhino (both black and white species), the unusual Rothschild's giraffe and the elusive leopard among other animals. It is also an ornithologists paradise. Later drive to L. Elementaita to visit homes and farms. Homestays can be organised here. Overnight at lakeside eco-camp with beds and en-suite after a guided sundowner hike along the lakeshores.

Day 6: Hell's Gate National Park
Drive to Hell's Gate Park for a 3-4hr hike across flat terrain to the spectacular gorge. Hell's Gate is a small, beautiful park where exploration on foot is permitted. We'll have close encounters with giraffes, gazelles, impalas, zebras, elands, hartebeests among others. Finally we explore the volcanic forms in the gorges, hot water springs and geysers. Overnight at the eco-camp.

Day 7: Maasai cultural interactions.
Boat ride in Lake Naivasha famed for its hippos and birdlife. Disembark at an animal sanctuary to walk amongst waterbuck, giraffe, zebra, impala and gazelle. Later drive to a small Maasai village for cultural insights.Our overnight bush camp is under the acacia trees, dinning under starlit skies then sleep to the sounds of the African night.

Day 8 Walking safari / Sunset over the Mara
Take an educative game walk excursion along through the savanna for wildlife viewing with the Maasai guides. Other activity here include visit of a local school we support and bathe in a hot water spring at Maji Moto. We then drive to Mara Springs Safari Camp. We still have a chance to walk up the nearby Naunare Hills for an awesome sundowner and arrange a night game drive in the Siana area. 

Day 9: Exploring Maasai Mara.
Full day game drives in Masai Mara park starting at dawn in search for the big 5 and a whole ark-full of other game and birds. From July to September this is home to the great wildebeest migration dubbed the new 7th. Wonder of the World. Overnight at Mara Springs.Day

10: Journey back to Nairobi
Optional hike up Naunare Hill to watch the stunning African sunrise as you do some bird watching. After breakfast is the leisurely journey back to Nairobi.
